Business Girls Enjoy Social Evening

The monthly social of the Palmerston North Business Girls' Club, held last evening, drew a gratifying attendance to enjoy proceedings, tho large room being ornamented _ with tall vases of Iceland poppies and bowls of spring flowers. Mr. and Mrs. A. Hopwood were the guests of honour for the evening and among those present were the president, Mrs. M. H. Oram, Mesdames H. Palmer and W. T. Royal (vicepresidents). Committee members responsible for the arrangements comprised Misses G. Eronstrom (convener), J. Higgins, J. Andrews, R. Liddell, H. Smith, R. Bull, O. Boddy, C. Tilson, E. Polglase and M. Palmer. The programme was of pleasing variety, a feature of the evening being the first appearance of the gymnasium class, under tho direction of Miss L. Alsop. Neatly attired m “gym." suits of gold and blue, eight of the business girls gave a very creditable display. Entertainment was provided by Miss Monich Lynch, who contributed vocal and violin solos; Miss Reta Bull, vocal solos; Cherry Hook, tap dance, and Betty Thompson, Irish jig, all the performers responding to encores. Misses Z. King and J. Houghton were the accompanists for the evening. Competitions provided further diversion, prize-winners being Miss Ryan and Mrs. Thompson. Supper was an important item and “Auld Lang Syne" concluded the evening.
