Loyalist Spin’s Appeal to America
WHOEVER WINS WILL BE RUINED United Press Association.— By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright. Received Tuesday, 12.30 a.m. BARCELONA, Aug. 29. Senor Prieto, in an address to the Socialist Congress, appealed for a loan from America to which Spain gave life and now turns in the moment of her prostration. Spain would never he allowed to fall under foreign domination. Whoever won the war would he ruined. Large foreign loans were necessary for reconstruction, hut not at the cost of mortgaging the country’s independence. ‘ 4 In winning the war, ’ 9 added Senor Prieto, ‘‘ we shall he less compromised than General Franco because we will not have to pay the enemy’s debts. General Franco could not he independent. 1-Ie never had money to carry on, hut relied on foreign credits.
