WELLINGTON, Last Night. An anti-cyc4one extends from tho western Tasman on to southern New Zealand.

Winds: Variable south of Hokitika and Banks Peninsula; elsewhere southerlies to south-easterlies prevailing, strong at first about and north of Cook Strait, but gradually decreasing, and elsewhere light to moderate.

Seas (New Zealand waters): Rough at first north of Farewell Spit and Kaikoura, but decreasing to-night; elsewhere slight to moderate.

Eastern Tasman: Moderate southerly winds, later becoming variable. Seas slight to moderate.

Weather: Passing showers in eastern districts between Cook Strait and East Cape and the far north, but improving gradually. Elsewhere fair to fine. Temperatures cold with many sharp frosts. YESTERDAY'S WEATHER Auckland: Sunshine, light breeze. Hamilton: Cloudy, light wind. New Plymouth: Overcast, strong wind Gisborne: Showers, strong wind. Napier: Rain, light wind.
