GILDO v. AITKEN What promises to be the greatest light for a long time will be staged at the Opera House, Palmerston North, next Thursday, when Young Gildo meets Billy Ait ken in a 12-round professional contest for a purse of £IOO. Young Gildo is one of the most colourful boxers ever to visit Now Zealand, and commenced boxing when he was 17 years of age. He has been fighting for ten years and has fought in America, China, Japan, Honolulu, Singapore, Australia and New Zealand. Beckoned to be the most-travelled boxer in the world, Gildo has had something like 368 contests. He is 27 years of age, but does not look it; he has looked after himself in the matter of training for his fights. Improperly trained boxes soon show wear and tear of the game; that is the reason Gildo looks young and earned the title of Y'oung Gildo. Billy Aitken is undoubtedly the best lightweight New Zealand has possessed since Johuuio Leckio was seen at his best. A stormy petrel of the boxing ring and ono time national featherweight champion, Aitken is as fit as he possibly can be, and-Gildo will find in him the toughest proposition he has yet encountered. Fight patrons are due for a thrilling exhibition of boxing when these two brilliant, speedy lads cross gloves on the 11th. Five specially selected amateur bouts will be contested, and in view of the fact that a record demand for seats is certain, early application should be made at the box office at Collinsou and C-unninghame ? s, telephone 7178.
