“Hope for a Troubled World"

VAST CHRISTIAN CONVENTION’S MESSAGE United Press Association. —By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright. MELBOURNE, Aug. 1. The flags of all nations, symbolising the unity of the Christian Endeavour movement, decorated the Exhibition building to-night, when the tenth world convention of the Christian Endeavour Union opened in the presence of about SOOO people. More than 2000 delegates from all parts of Australia and overseas took part at the sessions. The world president, Dr. Daniel Poling, Philadelphia, in a message before proceedings commenced said; “We believe the sessions provide a message of hope to the troubled world. In the proceedings emphasis will be laid upon all that which unites and saves; never upon that which divides and destroys.” A feature at the opening to-night was the lighting of the convention multiple torch, comprising 20 torches, one for each country represented, which will bum on a platform throughout the convention.
