Woman’s Brave Rescue

EXHAUSTED BROTHER-IN-LAW IN FLOODED RIVER Per Press Association. DARGAVILLE, Aug. 2. A drowning fatality was narrowly averted when flood waters were al their height at Tangiteroria. Some Maoris whose pulling boat was fasteed to a willow on the opposite river-bank endeavoured to remove the boat. In doing so a Maori, Dave Davis, was overcome with cold. His sister-in-law, Mrs W. Davis, seeing his predicament, diversed herself of some of her heavy clothing and plunged into the river to his assistance. By this time he was losing consciousiess, but succeeded in holding fast to i branch of the willow. Mrs Davis led a scarf around the helpless man nd brought him to shore. Willing helpers lifted the man and escuer out, and with warm blankets md a blazing fire, soon brought Mr Davis round and he was little the wors© for his experience.
