MEETING OF EXECUTIVE The Palmer-ton North Chamber of Commerce executive met last evening, Mr. A. J. Graham presiding. The Associated Chambers of Commerce notified that it was willing to see tho problem of itinerant trading satisfactorily settled and offered to give facilities for the discussion at the annual conference of any remit bearing on the matter that the chamber wished to put forward. A suitable remit is to be framed.

The town clerk advised that a reduc- j tion in the rate for electric motors ; would be considered when alterations 1 were next being made in the tariff.—Received. The Council of thj Fire and Accident Underwriters’ Association advised, in response to a request that the premiums charged for Palmerston North be reviewed, that its engineer would visit the city to test the amount of water available for fire-extinguishing purposes and investigate the position as to firefighting facilities generally.—Received. A copy of the constitution of the Auckland Territorial Association and copies of the recent statement by the Minister of Defence, Hon. F. Jones, were forwarded by the Army Secretary, who expressed appreciation of the chamber's co-operation in the forming of a similar association in Palmerston North.

Mr. Graham added that he had previously expressed the view that the Mayor, Mr. A. E. Mansford, should be asked to call a meeting of those interested. The mayor had told him that he bad been requested to do so by the defence authorities and Mr. Graham suggested that the matter be left to the mayor.

The chamber agreed with that course. The Associated Chambers, in asking the Palmerston North Chamber to incorporate, offered to pay the necessary fee, and it was decided to follow that coarse after it was pointed out that Palmerston North was the only major body which was not incorporated.
