Foxton Harbour

MONTHLY MEETING OF BOARD The Foxton Harbour Board met in Palmerston North yesterday, there being present: Messrs J. Linklater (in the chair), M. E. Perreau, P. Goldsmith, E. J. Bowater, W. E. Barber, H. Osborne, W. E. Carthew and J. A. Nash.

Tho pilot (Captain C. Yendore) reported that shipping during July had been the best of the past few months, there being seven arrivals and eight departures. The bar had kept good, but Robinson’s bend had given a little trouble. However, the bend was now improving and showing more water than for the last few months. There was now seven feet on the neap tides and nine feet on the bar. The bar had been sounded five times and the river three times.

With a view to having the obstacles removed in the way of Foxton being declared a handling port for cement, Messrs Bowater and Osborne were appointed a deputation to wait on the Minister of Marine
