A depression is centred north of the Bay of Plenty and pressure Is relatively low over the eastern Tasman. There has been a marked rise of pressure over eastern Australia, especially Tasmania. Winds: Moderate to strong southeasterlies about and north of Cook Strait. Variables at first over the South Island with north-easterlies predominating. Later a change to strong southerly winds to gales advancing from the south.

Seas (New Zealand waters): Rather rough to rough north of Farewell Spit and Kaikoura; elsewhere slight to moderate, but later rising on the south and east coasts of the South Island.

Eastern Tasman Sea: Strong southerly winds reaching gale force in places. Seas rough. Weather: Changeable in northern, central and eastern districts of the North Island with passing showers, and on the high levels snow. Elsewhere mainly fair to fine at first, but showery conditions witn snow in places setting in shortly in the far south and extending northwards over much of the country' during the next 24 hours. Temperatures very* cold. YESTERDAY’S WEATHER Auckland: Rain, light wind. Hamilton: Clouuy, moderate wind. • New Plymouth: Sun and cloud, moderate wind. Gisborne: Cloudy, light wind. Napier: Overcast, iignt wind. Palmerston North: bun and cloud, light wind. Masterton: Rain, light breeze. Wellington: Rain, light wind. Blenheim: Sun and cloud, light breeze. Nelson: Sun and cloud, light breeze. West Coast: Sunshine, calm. Christchurch: Sun and cloud, light wind. Timaru: Sun and cloud, light breeze. Dunedin: Sun and cloud, calm. Invercargill: Sunshine, light w'ind. YESTERDAY’S TEMPERATURES Maximum: 48 degrees F. Minimum: 38 degrees F.
