Poison Banner Rugby

INTER-SCHOOL GAME TO-DAY The Poison banner, held by Palmerston North, will be at stake in the annual match between the first fifteens of the Napier and Palmerston Nortl Boys’ High Schools, to be played at the Showgrounds at 3 p.m. to-day. It will be remembered that last year Palmerston North won by 19 points tc three, Beard, for the winners, perform ing the amazing feat of kicking four field goals. Both sides scored one try. To-day’s match will be the 35th of the series for the Poison banner. The first game was played in 1904 and it was not until 1907 tliat Palmerston North registered a victory, but since then Palmerston North has frequently held the upper hand, having won 19 games and Napier 14. There is no gainsaying the hold that secondary school Rugby has on the public and the school games fund should benefit substantially from the small charge made. The Napier team, which is under the management of Mr. R. H. Milburn, is as follows: Hobson, Kelly, Burgess, Cummins. Brown, Josephs (captain), Dean, Bennett, Sandtmann, Ormond, Ificliolas, J. Ormond, Ferguson, Thompson, Pope. Emergencies: Hartshorn, Rowell and Scullin.
