License Cancelled for Speeding
MOTORISTS BEFORE COURT Part of the penalty imposed on a car driver charged in the Palmerston North Magistrate’s Court yesterday with driving in a dangerous manner, was the cancellation of his driving license for 14 days. Defendent was James Shepherd, of Bulls, and according to Traffice Inspector Hartigan, he was driving a lorry in a lino of cars towards Palmerston North at 50 m.p.h. At Newbury he cut the corner completely, later to explain to the inspector that all the way from Bulls he and another driver bad been passing and repassing each other and he had cut the corner to prevent tho other from overtaking him. The inspector submitted that such negligence warranted cancellation of defendant’s driving licence and his worship agreed. Mr Lawry also imposed a fine of £5 with 10s costs. R. B. McKenzie (Bulls) was fined £3 with 10s costs for driving at a dangerous speed through Sanson. Inspector Semple said he later checked defendant at 60 m.p.h. G. Cunningham (Wellington) admitted speeding on the Napier highway with a fully loaded horsefloat. He was checked at 38 m.p.h. across the Ashhurst bridge and later increased to 47 m.p.h.—Fined £3 with 10s costs. S. Hardie was checked at 45 to 48 m.p.h. along the main road at Tiahitahuna when the maximum fixed for his, lorry was 25 m.p.h.—Fined £2 with 10? costs. Leslie Morley was checked at 43 m.p.h. with his lorry near Awahuri and paid a penalty of £3 with 10s costs. | D. Shepherd (Marton) drove his lorry at 45 m.p.h. and paid a penalty of 30s with 10s costs
