New Zealand Basketball Team
BEATING BY WELLINGTON SIDE Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, July 31. The New Zealand representative basketball team which is to leave on Thursday by the Wanganella for Melbourne, where it will take part in he All-Australian Basketball Tourney, suffered defeat at the hands of a Wellington representative side by 22 goals to 13 on Saturday. The game was played in the Town Hall which was well filled. From the commencement it was apparent that the weakness in. the New Zealand team was among the forwards, who did not come out to make their positions quickly enough to elude the nippy tactics of the local girls. A change of positions was later made in the New Zealand side, however, and thereafter the team showed up to much better effect and was able to hold its own with Wellington. Two other representative matches were played during tho afternoon. In the first a Wellington third grade rep resentative team was beaten by Tara naki by 17—13. The second game between Canterbury B representatives and Wellington B was won by Wellington by 18—17.
