Aokautere

From Our Own Correspondent. Saturday. July 23. saw a largo gather ing of sottiers at the Aokautere hall, the occasion being a farewell and presentation to Mr and Mrs Kristensen and family. The evening was spent in dancing, with an enjoyable interlude of national dancing by Miss Hazel Lankshear. After supper, Mr R. K. Scott, on behalf of tne settlers of the distri.-t asked Mr and Mrs Kristensen’* acceptance of a chiming clock, suitably engraved. Mr Scott stressed the nature of Mr Krisiensen's duties as factory manager an<l as a resident of the district, and said that he had earned the respect of all. On behalf of the settlers, he wished the guests of the evening the best of health and happiness In their new sphere and assured them that they would be greatly missed. . On behalf of the directors of the Kairanga Dairy Company, Mr J. Kyle congratulated Mr Kristensen on his appoint ment to the Dairy Division and wished hiru and his family every success. Musical honours were accorded tho guests, which Mr Kristensen thanked the speakers for their kind expressions and; the settlers for their gift. He pointed out j that during his term of nine years its fac-i tory manager, he had had the support of ; directors and suppliers alike, which must tend to the rmiking of efficient manage- i ment. Anything he had been ablo to j .-airy out at the factory had been his duty, and lie really did not think ho de- 1 served all the lino things that bad been taid about him. , : There were visitors present from Palmerston North. Rangiotu, Bafneuse and Mangawhuta. Monte Carlo waltzes were won by Mr and Mrs F. Judd, and Miss D. Atkinson and Mr A. V. Mason (Palmerston North). Rifle Club. The following scores were registered at last week's shoot of the Miniature Rifle Club: N. Hopcroft 136, S. Gedson 136. P. Smith 136, R. Andrews 136. A. Brill 134, I<\ Andrews 133. Tt. Clausen, a club member who is taking up his residence in the city. Mr W. Hopcroft asked Mr Clausen to accept a leather case, with the best wishes of members. Musical honours were accorded the guest, All* Clausen suitably replying.
