An enthusiaatics and well attended meeting of the local branch of the Labour Party was held on Vueuday evening, the business mainly being the discussion of affairs in connection with the Queen Carmvai which is benig run by the Manawaut L.R.C. The monmly meeting of the school commiucec was held on Wednesday evening, Mr U. F. Spry, chairman, presiding. Others present were Messrs P. L. Keat, H. P. Taylor, R. Young, A. S. Carkeelt (secretary), and the teacher. Miss M. W. Quirke. Mr R Young, who has been apponited to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Mr A. Needham, was welcomed. Miss Quirke, who has accepted a position as imant mistress at Te Horo, tendered her resignation to the committee and at the same time thanked them for their courtesy and co-operation during her period of service at this school. The committee expressed regret at the pending departure of so capable a teacher, thanked her for the keen interest she had taken in the school at all times, and wished her success in her new sphere. Arrangements were finalised for a trip to Wellington to be made by all the senior pupils under the cnarge of Miss Quirke. For some time Miss Quirke has been anxious that the children snould make the trip, which will no doubt prove a thrill for them ah,, and she is to be complimented xor her txioughtxUine~3 and enterprise in making such an ouung possible. The launch Glad Rye, ’ which lias been stranded on the coast for several weeks, was successfully brougnt home on Tuesday, apparently little the worse for her long exposure to the sea. Several attempts were made to move her previously, and it is a relief tothe owners to have aer safe in the stream.

Mr T. Boness, or 1? eilding, who for health reasons has had to give up business, has taken up his residence permanently at Tangimoana. Mr and Mrs George Davison, of Kairanga, and their grandson, Donald Angus, of Palmerston North, are spending a holiday at the beach.
