To-day’s Big Hockey Game in Feilding

NOTES ON PERSONNEL OF FEILDING TEAM The Indian hockey team, which arrived in Feilding yesterday and was accorded a civic reception last evening by the Mayor (Mr. T. L. Seddon) will play the Feilding representative team on Johnston Park this afternoon. Considerable interest lias been aroused over the visit and it is likely that there will be a largo crowd to witness the game of the visitors, whose team work is of an unusually high standard. All Peilding business premises will observe a holiday of two hours this afternoon to enable employeees to see the game. The following notes on the personnel of the Feilding team are supplied by “Observer”:

C. Whiteman (goal-keeper) has played hockey for several years. He is a good goalie who uses his boots to advantage and is sure to put up a good performance. F. Liddell (left full-back) is an old representative player, and has played representative hockey for Waikato, Manawatu, King Country and Auckland. He is quite a cool player and is sure to be a source of annoyance to the Indian team.

B. Kilkolly (left half), is a very fast and sure player with a powerful hit. This is his second year of representative hockey for Feilding. T. Packer (left back) is an old head at the game and played for Manawatu against the last Indian team. He has represented Waikato, Wanganui and the North Island. He is a sure player and knows hockey from A to Z. A. Packer (centre). Not much can be said of this player, as he is well known in hockey. He is a good goalgetter and has represented Feilding for 10 years.

E. Fleet (inside right) is another Taihape recruit, who has played representative hockey for Taranaki and Feilding for several years. J. Gilluiard (inside left) is also from Taihape, and is very last and quite up to representative standard. He has represented Feilding lor three years. W. Reid is a good player, but not quite the player he was last season. He must get rid of the ball and get it up to his forwards. H. Wham is a good player, certainly worth his position in the team, being a sure stop who hits the ball through to his forwards. He is one of the players that is sure to shine. S. Hocken (left wing) is a good player who goes for everything and is always on the job, being xmselfish and certaiuly worth his position. The team as a. whole is no doubt one of the best Feilding has turned out. There is one player who should have been included (says “Observer”) but I am led to believe that he has not turned up to practices, aud the selector has dropped him on this account. RFunston has been unfortunate in being on the sick list, and would have gone close to being included. There are several Kia Ora players who are nearly up to representative honours, aud the same can be said of the youthful players in the Rovers and Pirates teams.
