Manawatu Rugby Union

MEETING OF EXECUTIVE Mr.' K. W. Egiinton presided over the Manawatu Rugby executive in the absence of Mr. A. M. Ongiey last evening. Others present were Messrß. F. E. fenerwood, J. R. iiardie, B. Palmer, R. L. Park, E. Clovely, W. Carruthera and J. A. Colquhoun. The rector of St. Bedo’a College, Christchurch, wrote accepting an invitation to the college first fifteen to take part in the golden jubilee Rugby tourney to be held at Palmerston North on August 18 to 20. The team was looking forward to the visit, he added. —Received.

A similar acceptance was received from tho Te Aute College.—Received. The New Zealand University Rugby Football Council sought permission for tho New Zealand University interisland match to be played at Palmerston North on Saturday, Augufct 27. Received.

The Oroua Sub-Union accepted August 13 as the date for the Wallace Cup to be played at Kimbolton.-—The matter was held over until next week. August 6 was confirmed by the Horowhenua Union as the date for a junior representative game at Palmerston North.—Received.

The Wanganui Union advised that Saturday, August 6, would be suitable for the third grade representative match to be played as a curtain-raiser to the Maori All Black match at Wanganui.—Mr. W. Mitchell was appointed manager. The Wairarapa Union forwarded details of arrangements made for the Manawatu team at Carterton on August 8. The names of three referees were submitted.—Mr. H. J. McKenzie was selected as referee.

The Kia Toa Club suggested that, as the second round of the fifth grade competition was nearly finished, if a third round was not contemplated, the games should bo continued until the school holidays.—Tho competition is to be continued for three more Saturdays. A gate in the fence at Park road ground on the north-east side to be used to recover balls was urged by the Kia Toa Club, which pointed out that the fence had barbed wire along the top which made things difficult.—Received. The Oroua Sub-Union sought a date for a match between their junior representatives and the Manawatu third grade team at Kimbolton.—Oroua are to be asked to suggest a date in September as a date was not available before then.

The referee of the game between Feilding Old Boys juniors and St. Pat's, Mr. E. Bell, roported that he had ordered the Feilding captain, Kennedy, off the ground for persistent back-chat on his decisions.

Mr. Cievely said that he had watched the game and it was the first time ho had seen Mr. Bell referee. The players appeared to be at a loss. Kennedy had asked a few things and was told to be quiet. Neither the referee nor the player put in an appearance and it was decided to pl&ce Kennedy oh the caution list after hearing Mr. Cievely 's explanation.
