Amateur Cycling

MANAWATU CLUB The road race on Saturday last was to Sanson and back a distance of 28 miles. A good field of 14 riders faced the starter. Tho weather was line and a tail wind assisted the riders on tho journey out. At Awahuri F. Flanagan, while sharing the lead with R. Hobbs aud R. Walker retired with chain trouble. When the leading rider K. Hobbs turned at bauson the virtual scratch men, H. Essex, H. Rogers and H. Donovan, had caught half a minute ou the 2|-minute bunch, but on the journey home the latter group forged ahead and caught the leaders. Coming into the straight at the finish, nino riders in a bunch sprinted for the lino and in a close finish L Little was first. All the placed men had 2f minutes start. Results:— I. Little 1 F. Manning 2 B. Hail 3 Fasterst tiuic.—l. Little, lhr. lomin. 53sec. Next week the race will be over the Feilding-Halcombc block, a distaneo of 47 miles.
