73-year Man Drunk In Charge of Car
SIGHT FAILING AND DEAF Per Press Association. DUNEDIN, July 25. •The licensing autnormes are partlj blameable in this case, for here is i man 73 years old who is deaf and hi£ sight is failing driving a car,” criticised counsel for John Sanders, who admitted a charge of intoxication while driving a car. Counsel added that defendan was probably the oldest man to appeal on such a charge in the Dominion. It was stated that defendant sustained in a collision injuries necessitating hospital treatment. In view of his age and splendid war record (he went to the war in 1915 at the age ol 50, serving to the end), counsel asked for leniency. The Magistrate, Mr. H. W. Bundle, convicted him, ordering him to come up for sentence if called on within two years, his licence to be suspended for ten years.
