Ministerial. Tho Minister of Education and Health, Hon. P. Fraser, paid a visit to Palmerston North yesterday. Ho was accompanied by the member for Waitaki, Mr. D. Barnes, and his private secretary, Mr. P. J. G. Smith. In tho morning Mr. Fraser inspected the factory at tho Dairy Research Institute, which prepares tho milk for distribution to tho schools, and heard a deputation which sought an extension, of the scheme. He was the guest of the Rotary Club for lunch and in tho afternoon he opened the new assembly hall at the Girls’ High School. He returned later to Wellington. Mr. J. Hodgens met Mr. Fraser on his arrival and remained with him throughout tho day. Mr. Colin Horsley, the Wanganui pianist, will leave on Thursday for London to continue his studies at the Royal College of Music, having been awarded a scholarship. Rev. Stanley Jenkin, president of the Taranaki Church of England Union, left yesterday for Auckland en route to Melbourne to attend the world convention of tho Christian Endeavour movement. Mr. A. H. Larkman, who, for the last 15 years, has had charge of the engineering department of the Hawera Technical High School, has been appointed to take charge of the similar department of the Wanganui Technical College. Two examiners for the Trinity College of Music, London, Dr. C. Edgar Ford and Dr. J. Lyon, arrived at Auckland by the Niagara from Vancouver. Dr. Ford is to examine candidates in the North Island and Dr. Lyon is to go to the South Island. Visitors at the Palmerston North Rotary Club luncheon yesterday were Hon. P. Fraser (Minister of Education), Messrs. D. Barnes (Member for Waitaki), P. J. G. Smith (private secretary to the Minister of Education), W. Henshilwood, of Wellington, Mcllveney, of Hastings and F. Gilletzen, of Stuttgart, Germany. The death occurred suddenly this morning at Wanganui of Mr. James Henry Burnet, aged 80. Mr. Burnet came to New Zealand 56 years ago and joined the firm of Sargood Son and Ewen at Auckland. He was manager of the Wanganui branch of the firm for several years and retired 25 years ago. For the past ten years he has been director of tho Wanganui Museum. Mr. L. W. Paters, a pioneer of gliding in Hamilton, recently completed his C mechanic’s examination in England. He had previously secured tho A and B licenses. Mr. Peters, who is now employed by British Airways, has served on tho ground staffs at Gatwick and Croydon aerodromes, and for two months was secOnd-in-charge of the company’s engineering staff at Le Bourget, Paris. The death has occurred of Mr. Alfred Furse, inspector for the Otaki Borough Council. Mr. Furse, who was 53 years of age, was well known iii the Otaki district. He was born at Newquay ; Cornwall, England, and with his wife came to New Zealand about twenty years ago. After a short stay in Auckland he came to Otaki, where he had lived ever since, with the exception of a few months when he returned to England on a visit.
