Kiwitea Rifle Association
WITCOMBE AND CALDWELL CUP ANNEXED Last Saturday the first representative team, from the Kiwitea Rifle Association fired a match at Ashnurst against the Manawatu and Horowhenua Associations, and were successful in winning the Witcombe and Caldwell Cup by five points. The object of this match, is to bring the 350 riliemen of the Manawatu district together, and to form a major association and to further rifie-shooting generally. In the past, the rifie-shoot-iug of the Manawatu district has been controlled by the major association of Wanganui, and it came as a surprise to most people to see the number of riflemen in the Manawatu district, and it brought home to them the need of a controlling body in the Palmerston North district, to get a closer understanding of the needs of the riflemen of this district and also to support the two riflemen who, at the last National Rifle Association meeting at Trentham, gave a notice of motion to the effect that New Plymouth and Manawatu be given direct representation on that body. They formed themselves into a major association to control rifle-shoot-ing in their respective districts. Individual scores of the riflemen from the Kiwitea Association are as follow:—D. Banks, 33, 34, 32—09; S. M. Meads, 32, 34, 32—98; I. Simpson, 34, 28, 35—97; J. Fraser, 32, 33, 32—97; A. V. Barrow, 33, 33, 31 —97; H. McFarlane, 30, 35, 31—96; J. H. Thompson, 33, 33, 30—96; H. Buchanan, 30, 32, 32—94; P. Simpson, 30, 30, 32—92; S. A. Meads, 31, 32, 29—92; total, 598; average, 95.8. Next Saturday the shoot at the local range will be for the Gawne trophy, and all riflemen are requested to attend to receive the free grant of ammunition.
