Manavadar Indians Beat New Zealand Universities

TWO-ONE MARGIN IN HARD-rOUGHT GAME Per Press Association. DUNEDIN, Last Night. The Manavadar Indians gained a narrow victory over New Zealand Universities by two goals to one in a hockey match to-day and the attendance was upwards of 7000. The teams were evenly matched, the Universities putting up an excellent defence in the face of the Indians’ best attacks, and the first score was secured by Universities, Hubbard, the left wing, following in when Alldred had drdwn tho Indian goaiie. Sultan Khan, inside right, scored both the Indian's goals, the second • being a clever shot which the goalie just failed to stop. In the second half the Indians were attacking all the time and the Universities were having little chance to get away. The defence, however, particularly by Hercus, goalie, and Hogbcn, full back, was good enough to keep the score down. WELLINGTON DRAW WITH ENGLISHWOMEN ' Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Last Night. On a smooih ground the English women’s hockey team played a drawn game with Wellington on Saturday. No goals were scored. England had tho territorial advantage all the time and Wellington had only one or two chances of scoring, but the local defence w r as so sound that they kept the formidable tourists at bay. WELLINGTON BEAT HAWJS.ES BAY Per Pi ess Association. HASTINGS, Last Night. A Wellington representative hockey team defeated Hawke’s Bav at Hastings, after a very willing and open game, by four goals to two. Scorers for Wellington were Brown (2) and Edwards (2). Best and McCutcheon scored one each for Hawke’s Bay. A feature of play was the increased use of the push shot by both sides, Hawke’s Bay being particularly unfortunate in that they lacked the finish r needed for better results.
