Foot and Mouth Disease
DURBAN, June 27. The newspapers describe the outbreaks of foot and mouth disease among [cattle in the Natal Province as a nar tional calamity. It is estimated that eventually it will bo necessary t® slaughter 500,000 cattle. Mr C. J. Van Heerdcn, Assistant Director of Veterinary Services, told a meeting of farmers that the disoas® j would be a crippling blow to the export trade to Britain. It also might bring a serious economic crisis to th® j Union.
