Withdrawal From Spain
TEXT OF AGREEMENT TO BE PUBLISHED NEXT WEEK (British Official Wireless) RUGBY, July 6. The result of yesterday’s meeting of the Non-Intervention Committee, at which the final revise of the British plan for the withdrawal of foreign combatants from Spain was adopted, was formally recorded in Parliament. The Prime Minister. Mr Neville Chamberlain, stated that he hoped the text wou*d be available to members of Parliament next Monday. A Berlin Press Association cable says that the German Press adopts a friendly attitude to Britain with regards to the Non-Intervention agreement, which it describes as the crowning success of Mr Chamberlain’s- long efforts. ALMERIA TOO SMALL FRANCO’S NEUTRAL POET NOT APPROVED BY BRITAIN .L.ONDON, July 6. "Aimeria, which General Franco ha 3 proposed as a ‘safe port’ for, foreigr shipping, is the smallest of the seven Spanish ports used by British shipping It is completely unsatisfactory, therefore. Its draft, at the most, will accomodate only 3000-ton ships,” declares the Committee of British Shipowners trading to Spain. The report adds: “The maximum accommodation at Aimeria is for seven vessels, whereas ct present 43 vessels, many over 3000 tons, are discharging at Spanish ports. A further 50 are due within a fortnight. “Moreover, Aimeria is nearer the firing line than other first-class ports. “The committee demands the complete freedom of action and protection 'ccordea British shipping for the lao--300 years.” BOMBINGS IN SPAIN BRITAIN ENDEAVOURS TO FORM INQUIRY COMMISSION (British Official Wireless) RUGBY, July 6. Britain is making every effort to arrange for an international commission to be formed which would proceed at the request of the competent Spanish authority to any town that has suffered aerial bombardment in Spain. The Undcr-Secrctary for Foreign Affairs, Mr R. A. Butler, in announcing this in the House of Commons, said that the action to be taken depended on the replies received from certain foreign Govrnments, which he hoped wr*"ld soon arrive
