Monthly Committee Meeting

At the monthly meetirig of the Woodville Returned Soldiers 5 Association Committee on Thursday evening, Mr. W. Galbraith presided. Also present were Messrs. J. J. Young, J. Charles, C. Ware, C. Hares, A. K. Boyd, K. May, D. S. Broughton, A. W. Cook, T. S. K. Schaw, G. Wickes, D. Iveay and F. t>. Mackie (secretary). Apologies were received from Messrs. L. Hurley and W. Brotherstone.

Tho Paliiatua Fire Brigade wrote accepting tho association’s challenge for a scries of billiards and snooker games. The first round of the series will be played at Woodville. An invitation was received from Captain L. Miller of the Salvation Army, asking the association to attend a meeting on Sunday, August 21, when the address would be given by a

“digger,” Major Sara Hayes. This invitation was gratefully accepted. A circular from headquarters covered a copy of the remits to be considered by the annual meeting of the Dominion council of the association. The president, Mr. W. Galbraith, was appointed the delegate from the Woodville association, but if he cannot make the trip Mr. D. Iveay will attend in his stead. A further circular from headquarters appealed to the individual associations for co-operation by not making any individual invitations or arrangements regarding the proposed Australians’ visit in 1940.

Mr, J. Charles, on behalf of himself and the secretary, reported their action in obtaining the kelly pool set from the local billiard room when it closed down. This was endorsed.

Progress was reported by the committee set up to go into the question Of alterations and improvements to the club and these works should soon bo under way.

A special sub-committee comprising Messrs. W. Galbraith, G. Wickes, J. Charles and F. D. Mackio was set up to make all arrangements for tho annual re-union on Saturday, July 16, Financial statements of the proceeds of the annual ball and the raffle disclosed net profits of £2l 13s 6d anti £2B 7s respectively. Each result whs considered very satisfactory.
