Manawatu Electorate

ANNUAL MEETING OF NATIONAL PARTY Addressing over 100 delegates Tepreia the Manawatu electorate, at the annual meeting held on Tuesday night ; at Feilding, Mr. A. Campbell (pre-. sident) said that he accepted the repre-1 sentativo attendance as indicative of tho desire for a return to sound > Government and of a determination to spare no effort to ensure the return of the Party’s candidate. Everybody realised the seriousness of tho political situation in the Dominion to-day, said Mr. Campbell, but nevertheless he wanted to make it plain that however good tho prospects for the National Party wore, both in this electorate and in others, there could be no resting on tho oars. It was up to all members to strain every nerve to consolidate the position and to return Mr. Cobbe with the largest majority in any rural electorate in the Dominion. (Applause.) “I am one of those," continued Mr. Campbell, “who will fight to tho end to see the right and privileges that our fathers had, and that we ourselves have also enjoyed, rctaiued for our children. Our Party stands for a fair and equitablo thing for everybody and we will not stand by an see these things filched from us. We have only one duty and object and that is to oust tho present occupants of the Treasury benches from that position and place therein tho National Party, the party in whose interests w r o are hero to-night." Tho annual report disclosed that during the past year new branches had been formed in several parts of the electorate and the organisation broug.it up to a very high standard. The report paid tribute to tiie work of tho women 's organisation, which, unaer the leadership of Mrs. J. Williamson, had been very active in promoting the interests of tho Party. The junior section of the organisation had also carried out excellent work in its particula. sphere and to the officers and members of that section thanks were extended.—The report -was adopted.

Officers were elected as follows:—— President, Mr. A. Campbell; vicepresident, Mr. Quentin Wilson; lion, treasurer, Mr. Y. E. Smith; divisional conference delegate, Mr. Q. Wilson; Dominion conference delegates, Messrs. A. Campbell and Q. Wilson. The electorate executive committee and financo and emergency executive committee were appointed on tho same lines as previously. A considerable amount of general business was transacted and the executive committee will meet on the second Tuesday in July to go further into matters referred to it.

It was decided that a conference of branch secretaries should be called by the electorate secretary at a date to be arranged, when several questions relating to branch organisation will bo dealt with.

Tho meeting closed with an expression of thanks to tho branch delegates from tho chairman for tho work they are doing, while Mr. E. W. Barnett spoke on the objectives of the junior section and asked for the co-operation and assistance of all members towards this end. The chairman endorsed these
