From Our Own Correspondent. Awahuri will be a lively place during the next few weeks, a queen carnival having been arranged, the latter creating a great deal of sporting competition. The three candidates chosen are Allsses Dulcie Alatthews (sheep farmers- oueen), Alclda Alikkelsen (dairy farmers’ queen), and Yvonne Bennett (sports queen;. Committees for the various queens have been appointed and are enthusiastic to put their particular queen at the top of the poll. Indication flags will be flown at the hall indicating the various positions. The hall committee is tho promoter of tho carnival and all will wish the event success. Tho formal introduction of the three popular candidates will take place at a euchre and dance on July 5, which function promises to be an exceptionally successful one. There will be attractive prizes and a largo attendance is anticipated. Personal. Mr E. O. Bond nas returned homo from New Plymouth ufter having attended the N.D.Aconferenco held there recently. The friends of Air* SI. Pedersen will regret to learn that she has been compelled to enter hospital and has undergone an operation. All will wish her a speedy rcMr G. 11. Lucas is visiting Awahuri as tho guest of Air and Mrs 11. W. Lucas. Air J. Oko is confined to his bed and Is far from well. Friends will wish him a speedy recoveery. Air and Mrs Bishop aro moving to Sandon within a few dal's. They will bo much missed by the various committees of which they aro active members. Colds and influenza aro very prevalent in the district at present, quite a number of residents being confined to bed with these complaints, and a number of children have been unable to attend school. Ingratitude greeted a local resident recently when, on motoring to town, he noticed a bag of sugar fail from a grocer’s van. Tho motorist sped after the man, with tlie sugar and gave it to the loser, who topic it without as much as a “thank you. ’ Miniaturu Rifle Club. At the weekly shoot of the Alinlature Ritle Club there was a good attendance. Winners were: J. Alilligaii (A grade), M. Cocker (B grade), F. Dear (C grade). The scores were as follow: J.
