SALIENT POINTS IN NEW AUTUMN AND WINTER FASHION PARADE

AFTER an exceptionally long summer, winter is now definitely “in" in New Zealand, and the summer mode has of course been displaced by autumn and winter clothes. In the illustrations on this page a fashion artist depicts the salient points in the new season s fashions. Sequins are the outstanding characteristic of both day and evening wear. Other features of the season’s frocking and styles are dealt with in a special article published below.

The new box type of coat, top left, is as voluminous as possible. It is of rusty-rose, nubbly, woollen material, and has large double pockets and wooden buttons. This Scotch tweed in a coarse weave, top right, has a dark nigger-brown base, over-checked in rust and green and variously flecked. At lower left is this coat of bottle-green tweed. It buttons high to the neck and finishes with an attached scarf, embossed with an overcheck of green. This smart coat, lower right, of yellow tweed, with a blue ovcrcheck, swings wide from the shoulders like a guardman’s cape.

SALZBURG FASHIONS FOR SKATERS.—“Swing along In a swing skirt” is the fashion slogan for iceskating this year. These frocks ar e copies of outfits worn at leading winter sports abroad. Top left is a skirt and jumper of black velveteen trimmed with scarlet braiding and worn with black velvet “briefs.” The skirt has a serrated hemline. At top right, the skirt of the black velvet frock with nn eight-gored skirt Is lined with a red picture print of a Tyrolean farm. The jacket is knitted and fits snugly. Zippers form the ideal fastening for a skating frock, and the model at centre right in black velveteen is zippered from neck to hemline. The skirt is also lined with red print. Reindeer metal buttons add a novel finish to the coloured shirt worn with the tartan skirt seen in the centre. The skirt is 12-gorcd, and has a daring swing.
