From Our Own CorrespondencMrs Meldowie, Hawera, has been the guest of her sister, Mrs H. E. Hocken. On Thursday last, an excellent cooking demonstration was given by Mrs Barrington, demonstrator for the Electric Power Board, acting under arrangements with the Colyton Women's Institute. Two electrical stoves were temporarily installed for the occasion and many useful hints and excellent recipes were given, as well as a practical demonstration. Mrs Barrington was accorded a hearty vote of thanks and an enjoyable afternoon concluded with the serving of afternoon The local Women’s Institute is to be congratulated on their splendid effort In gaining second place in the arts and crafts display at the Winter Show. There were a large number of entries, and only one point separated the winners. In the seven-a-side Rugby tournament held at the Winter Show for Young Farmers’ Clubs, the local team succeeded in reaching the semi-finals. Those who represented the club were W. and S. Hocken, A. Burr, R. Gibson, R. Wcalleans, L. Thurston, and T. Dungey.
