INTER-VARSITY GAME FOR PALMERSTON NORTH MASSEY PLAY AUCKLAND ON WEDNESDAY WEEK As the result of tho Massey Agricultural College Rugby Football Club re ceiving full status last year us a member oi tho New Zealand University Council, patrons of tho game iu the Manawatu and surrounding districts will have the opportunity oi witnessing some really spectacular football which otherwise would not have eorno their way. The first occasion, and a unique occasion insofar as it will introduce for the first time to Palmerston North a senior club fifteen from Auckland, will be the clash between Aucklaud University and Massey Agricultural Collogo to be staged at the Palmerston North Showgrounds on Weduesdaj', 13th July next. The next occasion of note will bo the inter-island University game to be played here on August 27 and it is expected that Palmerston North will be included in tho itinerary of ’the United Kingdom Universities team tc visit this Dominion in 1940. Last season Massey College visiteir Auckland and, as tho result of a brilliant last-minute try, giving them victory by nine points to eight, won flic magnificent silver rose-bowl which is compoted for by the Auckland and Wellington ’Varsity teams and Massey College. A point of interest is the fact that the rose-bowl is a goodwill trophy presented to The New Zealand University football team by the Rugby authorities in Japan, when tho New Zealand team toured that eouutry two or three years ago. Incidontally, unlike the Ranfurly Shield, tho Toso-bowl is at stake whenever tho holder plays either of the other two teams. The Auckland team provided some really spectacular football to defeat the improved Victoria University College team by 20 to 16 at Auckland last week and the game to bo played at the Showgrounds on Wednesday fortnight should be no exception to the fast, scintillating Rugby usually produced by university teams.
