Third Day’s Play
LONDON, June 27. Play was not resumed until 4.15 p.m. Brown when 184 mistimed a drive off Wellard and should have been caught by l’aynter. A total of 40 runs was raised in 45 minutes. Brown is tho seventh to achieve the feat of carrying his bat in teste between England and Australia. His magnificent innings included 23 boundaries. Barnett aud Hutton w*alked out to open England's second innings, but before a ball was bowled Tain again stopped play. After further interruptions owing to rain, play was continued in unpleasant conditions with a lively wicket and dim light. O’Reilly and McCormick both made the ball kick, McCormick bowling with g r eat pace, and in his fifth over, Barnett was caught by McCabe from a hard cut, with seventeen minutes to stumps. Verity came in immediately but lost Button, wuo was brilliantly caught in slips. McCormick, although uo-balled three times continued at a violent pace, disconcerting Edricb, who was twice struck on the arm. Amid calls of “Take him off!"
