Crossing Collision at Napier
CAR DRIVER S LUCKY ESCAPE (Special to “Times.”) NAPIER, Last Night. A lucky escape from serious injury befell Mr Fred Lowe, of Napier, last evening, when the car which he was driving was involved in a level-crossmg smash with the night goods train at the Sale street crossing in Napier. The driver escaped uninjured, but the car, which was being used for purposes of demonstration, was badly damaged. Mr Lowe was driving in the direction of the Marine Parade, and reached crossing just before the train at about 10.20 p.m. He did not apparently hear the automatic warning bells with whicu the crossing is protected, and his vehicle was almost across the lines when hit by the train, which was travelling fairly slowly. The car was knocked side-ways into a fence, and the rear portion of it was fairly extensively damaged. The engine of the train was lot damaged.
