The Late Mr. Goodbehere

LENGTHY FUNERAL YESTERDAY The funeral of the late Mr. Edmund Goodbehere, of Feilding, took place yesterday and the particularly lengthy cortege was an eloquent demonstration of the widespread respect held for the deceased gentleman. Friends and relations of the deceased were present from as far north as Rotorua, the East Coast, Wellington and “Wanganui while in addition there were many very beautiful floral tributes to the memory of a gentleman who was held iii the highest esteem throughout the countryside. The cortege left the residence, “Northfield, ” and proceeded through the town to St. John Anglican Church, where Archdeacon F. H. Petrie conducted a service in the presence of a largo congregation. The Archdeacon also conducted the service at the graveside. This was followed by the Masonic service which was conducted by Mr. C. Hausmann supported by Messrs. C. Fraser (Palmerston North), A. J Kellow and W. E, Carthew. The pall-bearers at the residence were the grandson and other relations of tho deceased, namely Messrs. Brian Goodbehere, J. H. Gibbons (Waione, Dannevirke), M. D. and S. E. Carr (Rotorua), 11. Shepherd, son-in-law (Colyton), and M. Conway (Cheltenham). At the church the pall-bearers were representatives of the different interests and late Mr. Goodbehere had been associated with during his long life, they being Messrs. T. L. Seddon (Mayor of Feilding), A. Campbell (chairman of the Oroua County Council), J. Graham and W. Shannon (Feilding Jockey Club), W. G. Fry (the Feilding Club) and K. M. Little (Feilding Building Society). The bearers at the cemetery wero members of the Masonic brethren as follows: , Messrs. W. W. Andrews, H. Dewe, H. Brooker, W. G. Booth, E. B. Cook and M. Hausmann. The large gathering at the graveside was representative of every local and district interest as well as district racing clubs including the Manawatu, Wanganui, Ashhurst, Rangitikei and Marton Clubs, while Sergeant Turner represented tho Feilding police, i Among tho floral tributes received • were those from the following: Feilding (Magistrate’s Court, Oroua Licensing Committee, the Clerk of tho Court, the Feilding Jockey Club, Miss McLean (Aorangi), Mr. J. Henrys Mayor and councillors Feilding Borough I Council, Oroua County Council, staff of the Feilding Racecourse, Feilding Building Society, Manawatu Club, St. John’s Vestry, Feilding, Feilding Fire Brigade, Manawatu Racing Club, Ashhurst Racing Club, Marton Racing Club, Wanganui District Committee, Rangitikei Racing Club, Government Insurance Department, Wanganui Jockey Club, Commercial Union Insurance Co., Messrs. Barraud and Abraham, Ltdi (Palmerston North), Feilding Aero Club, Masonic Lodge, Feilding A. and P. Society, and Messrs. Dustins’ Ltd., Palmerston North. CHAMBER OF COMMERCE SYMPATHY At a meeting of the Feilding Chamber of Commerce on Monday night, reference was made by the president, Mr. A. J. Humphreys, to the passing of Mr. Edmund Goodbehere. He recalled the fact that Mr. Goodbehere had boen a member of the committee of the chamber some thirty years ago and had served as prosident. Tho meeting carried in silence a motion of sympathy with his relatives and family.
