From Our Own Port espondent. Personal. Mrs R. Birch and Mrs V. Simpson left on Friday for a two-weeks’ holiday visit ,o Christchurch. Mrs J. P. Falconer, Newtown, left this week to spend a holiday at Auckland. Mr H. Pentecost, Pidgeon Bay (5.1.), is Lht guest of Mrs L. Burling. Bryce street. Miss Mitchell, of Wanganui, is the guest of her sister, Mrs L. H. Best, Kingston road. Mrs Lunt, Dannevirke, arrived In Shannon last week, and is tho guest of her daughter, Mrs McSweeney. Vaneo street. Mr and Mrs S. Shedden entertained Canon Watson, the team of Bible Class , leaders, and other visitors, at supper, folj lowing the Youth Campaign Service on Sunday last. I Mr and Mrs E. Hall, Misses L. Wilkinson and 1. Harrington, all of Wellington, spent last week-end as tho guests of Mr and Mrs J. A. Wilkinson, Vance street. Mr W. S. Carter (Palmerston North), Mr W. H. Smith (Moutoa), directors of the Dairy Company, and the secretary, Mr C. M. Cronquest, left on Tuesday for New Plymouth, to attend the N.D.A. conferMrs MeMecking was a week-end visitor to Wellington, visiting her brother, Mr W. Gardiner. Mr Gardiner, who has been confined to his. bed for the past four months, is now making good progress toward recovery. It was with regret that friends learned of the death of Mrs Pentecost, Christchurch, mother of Mrs A. E. Burling, of Shannon. Mrs Burling left for Christchurch a fortnight ago, and was able to bo with her mother for a few days before her death. Mr E. Perry, Flimmer Terrace, was the winner of the hamper competition, donated by Mr J. Curran. Youth Campaign. For the first time a youth campaign was held at Shannon during last week-end, when members of the Anglican Bible Class made it their objective to bring along another boy or girl, ill order to interest them in joining the Bible Class. On Sunday afternoon a lull muster of members gathered together with a team of five Bible • lass leaders from Palmerston North. Canon Watson, of Marion, addressed them collectively, and later the gathering divided. the boys being taken by the three men leaders and the girls by the two women leaders. At 5.30 the happy party i sat down in a flower-decked hall to well* j laden tables, presided over by tho Rev. and Mrs E. W. Burgin. A special service was later hold at the church, where Canon Watson addressed the gathering. Three of the visiting leaders also spoke. The pronouncing of the benediction by Canon Watson brought a memorable service to a close. Dance at Moutoa. Tho social committee of the Houtou Table Tennis Club held another of their popular dances last week. Unfortunately, ihe event clashed with other functions and the attendance was not as large as waft expected. However, the committee must he congratulated on the manner in which the dance was conducted. The music was supplied by a professional orchestra, and an extra was played by Mr L. Muttar Two competition dances were held, the winners being Miss M. Forbes and Air YY Whiteman, and Miss P. Harpur and M: Porter. Mr Apirina entertained with two songs. Mr N. Richardson carried out the dHtles of M.C., and the supper room was under the control of Mesdames Lueinsky and Lang, and Miss Lang

Girl Guides. Wednesday evening was an eventful one for the Shannon Girl Guides, for they had as Visitors, Mrs I. Wilson (Palmerston Nj, District Commissioner, and Miss Lorna Davies (Rongotea), District Captain. The object of the visit was to enroll six new Guides, and to test 18 Guides for their second class knots. Twenty-nine Guides, and- a few parents and members of the Girl Guides' committee, were present. Mrs Will carried out the inspection, following which a horseshoe was formed for the enrolment, the six recruits enrolled being Florence Chester, lsla Turley, Rita Robinson, Jeftn Grant, Madge Coley and Pat Caldwell. Mrs Wilson addressed the Guides, remarking upon the neatness and tidiness of the Company. While Miss L. Davies tested the tenderfoots for their second-class knots, the remainder of the Company entertained uie visitors with two parades and the following items: Tap dance (Pat Caldwell); recitation (May Goodwillie); vocal duet, (Matha and Greta Jamieson); tap dance (Joan Coutts)/ At the conclusion of the testing of the tenderfoots, all joined in a game of hockey, this being followed by supper.
