FEILDING LIVE STOCK SALE

Lack of Inquiry For Store Sheep The large entry of store sheep at yesterday’s Feilding live-stock sale suffered through lack of enquiry, mainly on account of the wet condition of the countryside. Business in the fat sheep section was mostly confined to export operators who secured most of the offering at lower values. The enquiry for both ewe and wether mutton was weak and values were easier. The beef market was inclined to be “sticky” and values overall eased a shade. There was a small offering of station cattle and while there was an enquiry buyers were not prepared to operate up to vendors’ ideas of the values. Practically the whole of the entry 01 just on 500 lambs in the fat sheep section was taken by local export interests. The bulk of the offering was on the light side and thore was little competition for these but for the better finished sorts local and district butchers volunteered modest bids which, however, failed to eliminate the freezing interests. The first peu offered, 15 blacxl'ace lambs, on account of W. Davies, made 18s sd. These were compact, small and meaty sheep of medium quality. On the same account fairish lightweights in otherwise good condition sold &t 16s. Somewhat mixed in quality, a pen ot 14 bff.s offered on account of the Managh Estate realised 16s 4d. Six woolly unfinished b.f.s realised 16s, and two medium quality weli grown woolly b.f.s sold at 20s Gd. T. J. Taylor’s offering of 60 Romney woolly lambs of light to medium quality realised 17s. Jones made 21s Id, and a further ten on the same account, a shade lighter ana smaller, sold at 18s. The offering of 27 lambs on account of H. Ellery, of Bulls, realised 13s. These were unfinished but good, fresh lambs. Gordon Brothers, of Kongotea, obtained 20s for a pen of 1(J woolly Romney lambs in good condition. Four prime lambs ou account of L. Beazer realised 23s 9d and other entries on the same account made 13s lOd to 17s 3d. For a pen of 12 b.f. lambs, woolly, offered on account of J. W. Corpe, yd was obtained. Sold in three pens, A. Mitchell ’s offering of 82 Romney lambs realised from 18s lid, IDs 4d to 20s. Wether mutton found the market still difficult. The yarding contained some quite good sheep as well as several inferior lines. The better prices were offering for well-finished blackface lines. Justr under 40 Romney wethers offerca on account of W, Davies, of Waituna, sold at 24s 4d. W. T. Maxwell's offering of 13 mixed quality wethers which included some good weight sheep, realised 24s 6d. Operations in the store sheep section were marked by a very poor inquiry and the sale dragged.
