Blessed Sanctuary

DR. FREUD IN ENGLAND. LONDON, June 6. Dr. Sigmund Freud, the founder of psycho-analysis, who reached London to-day from Vienna, was welcomed by a group of former pupils and friends, some of whom are also exiles. His son Ernst says that Dr. Freud is a very old man and that he has made no plans, but chiefly wants peace and quiet for tho remainder of his days. In gen eral the treatment of Jews in Germany had been abominable, but his father had been an exception. Dr. Freud, who is 82 years of age and of Jewish extraction, has been granted permission to stay and work in England. In an interview he said: “I am overjoyed to be in tho blessed sanctuary of this lovely England. How peaceful it is. 77 He has brought only a few precious books and jade antiques. “We were among the few Jews decently treated in Vienna, 77 said Anna, daughter of Dr. Freud. “It is not true that we were confined to our house. Father did not go out owing to the state of his health, but we were free to come and go as we pleased. •* Dr. Freud himself said: “Everything has been taken away from us, but we do not feel that we have been ruined. Our publishing business has been dissolved, but may be built up again elsewhere."
