Skins and Hides

Dal gety and Co., Ltd., report:—The fortnightly sale of sheepskins, hides, tallow and sundries was held on Friday when a comparatively small offering was submitted to the usual attendance of buyers. Sheepskins: All grades were in demand, and a good clearance was effected at values which may be quoted as fully firm on last sale's rates. Hides: Although a keen demand was met, the market was somewhat erratic. Heavy-weights advanced by id to sd;

medium were par to $d up, and lightweights 3-8 d lower. Kip, yearling and heavy calf were par to £d up, while light calf were a shade easier. A small offering was submitted, and prices showed little change. The following is the range of prices:— Sheepskins: Half bred, 6d to Bfd; fine Xbred, 6id to BJd; medium Xbred, 6£d to BJd; coarse Xbred, 6id to BJd; half wools, 5Jd to 8d; quarter wools, 4fd to 7d; pelts, 2jd to 4sd. Salted skins: Pelts, to Is 4d; quarter wools, 2s 4d to 2s 6d; half wools, to 3s 3d; three-quarter wools, to 4s lOd; full wools, to 5s 6d; lambs, 2s to 3s Id. Murray Roberts and Co. Ltd report:— “We held our fortnightly sale of hides and sheepskins to-day when fair catalogues were offered to a large bench of buyers. A keen demand was experienced for sheepskins, and compared with our last sale here, can be quoted in sellers favour. Light ox eased by a halfpenny, but medium weights showed an improvement from par to three-farthings, while heavies were a shade firmer. Light cows dropped three-eighths, with other weights at par. Yearling and heavy calf advanced halfpenny, lighter calf showed no change. Tallow was firm. The range of prices is as follows: Dry Sheepskins.—Half-bred, Gd to BJd; fine Xbred, 6fd to 84d; medium Ebred, 6Jd to Bfd; coarse Xbred, 6|d to SJd; half wools, sfd to 8d; quarter wools, 4sd to 7d; pelts, 23d to 44d. Salted Skins.—Felts, Is 4d; quarter wools, 2s 4d to 2s 6d; half wools, 3s 3d; three-quarter wools, 4s lOd; full wools, 5s 6d; lambs, 2s to 3s Id.
