From Our own ooii esponaeut. Card Party. Alx- and Airs S. H. White on Thursday evening entertained several friends at a card evening at their home, this being the first of a series to augment the Anglican Church funds. The winners of the bridge trophies were Air and Airs T. Nix. Airs W. J. Viles and Mrs J. R. Strahan tied for the euchre prize, which wsa won by the former. Air C. AI. Stanley and Mr White tied fur the mens ouclire prize, which Air White won on tho cut of tne cards. Sup-’ per was provided by tho Anglican Church ladies, and tne prizes were donated by Mr and Airs White.

Mr 11. C. Mcmtyre presided over a fair attendance at the annual meeting of the Apiti branch of the Farmers’ Union on Thursday evening. The president presented a report on the activities of the past, year. The balance sheet disclosed a substantial credit balance. The branch membership list now numbers 65. The president, Air H. C. Alclntyre, did not seek reelection, and Air J. D. Kilgour was elected president for the ensuing year; vice-presi-dents, Alessrs H. C. Alclntyre, H. H. Jensen and J. H. Cowan. Mr A. W. Viles was re-elected secretary and treasurer. Messrs Alclntyre and Viles were chosen as delegates to attend the provincial conference at Wellington this month. A letter of thanks is to be sent to Air Galpin; also an invitation to Air and Airs Galpin to attend the Fanners Union annual prize-giving social evening next month. It was decided to donate £1 Is to a prize fund for High School children, the decision to be left in the hands of the special committee which arranges the secondary schools farm lectures and demonstrations. There was considerable discussion on various Union matters, and another meeting will be held shortly to discuss the agenda for the Dominion conference. Votes of thanks were, passed to all retiring officials for their services in the interests of the Farmers’ Union.

Apiti parents, school teachers and pupils were indeed sorry to learn that the head teacher, Air A. W. Bird, has accepted a position at Manunui, near Taumarupui, and that immediately after the holidays Air Bird will commence his new duties. Air and Airs Bird will be greatly, missed from Apiti, as apart from the keen interest they have taken in the affairs ot the school, they have also been very interested in all branches of sport. Both Air and Mi’s Bird are very active members of the Tennis and Golf Clubs and Air Bird has given helpful service as a rereree on the football field. The W.D.F.U., the Plunket committee and particularly the Women’s Institute, will feel the loss of a valued member when Airs Bird leaves the district. Although Mr and Airs Bird have been in Apiti only two years, they will leave many friends here who will join in wishing them happiness and success in their new sphere. Air W. Palmer has returned to Wellington, after spending a holiday in Apiti with Mr and Mrs-A. E. Prujean. Air Prujean has been on a short visit to Wellington. Aliss Alison Wingate, of Mount Richards, has been staying with her sister, Airs Norman Viles. Air Herbert Watson, of Te Aroha, is renewing old friendships while holidaying in Apiti with Mr and Airs W. H. Watson. ATr and Airs D. Paterson and two of their grandchildren, are holidaying in Palmerston North. R.S.A. This year the unual re-union of the Apiti Returned Soldiers’ Association will be held in the Kimbolton hall on Friday, J May 27, a week later than previously ar- • ranged. All returned men in the Apiti i R.S.A. district will read further particulars to be advertised in the "Times.” Football. The senior football match on Saturday attracted, a good gathering of spectators, who witnessed a closely contested game between Rangiwahia and Apiti. The game was mainly a forward struggle, the local forwards proving in better form than the visitors. The Rangiwahia backs, however, played a. better game than did the Apiti backs. In the first spell Thomson went over near the corner to score ror Rangiwahia. The kick missed. From a mark, T 6. Osborne took a drop-kick which found the uprights, to give Apiti three points. Jim AlcKenzie potted a goal'and at half time the score was 7—3 in Apitl’s favour. From a passing movement well upfield. Amadio collected the ball and ran through the opposition to score under the posts. He also converted the try. giving Rangiwahit a point lead, which they maintained and the game ended with a win for Rangiwahia with the scores S—7. ATr C. H Osborne was the referee. The Apiti juniors played at Rangiwahia and won the match 21—3. Golf. Tho members of the Apiti Golf Club have for the past few days been busy practising under the experienced eyes of a pi’ofessional coach, and all are hoping to show improved form on the links as the result of Mr Green’s advice. Air Green, who arrived from Auckland on Friday, proceeds to Blenheim this week and he complimented the Apiti Club on the links, remarking that the greens were particularly good for a counti-y club. The ladies’ competition was postponed until Saturday next, when there will be a stroke competition, the prizes being donated by Mrs W. H. Watson..
