HOSPITAL BOARD CONTEST COUNTY CHAIRMAN DEFEATED The official recount of the votes cast at the Kiwitea County elections on Wednesday la3t was completed over the week-end and the returning officer, Mr. W. L. Hesseltine, yesterday announced that Cr. L. T. McLean, for many years chairman of tho County Council, had been defeated in the contest for the county's representative on the Palmerston North Hospital Board. Cr. McLean had represented the council for many years on tho Hospital Board and at the elections last week his opponent, Cr. J. H. Williamson, was successful by two votes. The final count placed the candidates as follows: Cr. J. H. Williamson 120 Cr. L. T. McLean 118 Informal 1 In connection with the election for a councillor for the Peep O' Day Riding, tho sitting member, Cr. J. Beard, was defeated by Mr. A. L. Shannon by three votes. The official recount did not alter the previously announced result and the* final figures remain as follow: A. E. Shannon 39 J. Beard 36 Informal 1
