Anzac Day in the Schools

CHILDREN ADDRESSED Mr. W. T. McClenaghan (chairman of the Scarborough School Committee) presided over a large number of parents and children when an address by the Rev. A. A. Armstrong was given on the morning of Anzac Day at the school. Mr. D. O’Brien also spoke and three scholars, J. Mangin, B. Bolsom and M. Monerieff took part in the proceedings. L. Gray, on behalf of the Scarborough School, placed a w 7 reath beneath the Roll of Honour of sixty-five names. The wreath was afterwards transferred to the Pahiatua War Memorial.

Captain E. R. Winkler and Captain Kearse, of the Salvation Army, visited the Pahiatua District High School where appropriate addresses were delivered to the scholars. A wreath was later laid on the soldiers’ memorial.

The Anzac service at Mangatainoka School was taken by Rev. W. E. Moore and Mr. H. A. Bick gave the address. This ceremony was noticeable for the presence of so many of the smaller children who braved the inclement weather. The Konini scholars assembled at the local school for an Anzac service con-

ducted by Rev. H. Wilsou. Captain F. H. S. Bolton, of Pahiatua, also attended and gave the children a short talk on the war.
