HOUSEWIFE’S DIARY
HINTS ABOUT THE HOME Window Cleaner. Try for window, mirror and other glassware cleaning, cold tea that contains a few drops of glycerine. Photo Frames. More “exclusive” than silver frames for the most cherished photographs that you like to have on view about the house are heavily frosted glass frames. Frosted glass, by the way, makes modern vases, ashtrays and other such things and has a wonderful cool look. We can do without that just now, but it is worth remembering. Longer Hair. Milliners and hairdresses evolve their ideas in happy harmony nowadays. Each season’s influx of new hats means fresh variations in hair styles. If you want to be “it” in the coming months you will have to set about growing a longer hair. These hats look odd if perched on top of the head without plenty of hair at the back to balance them. Fire “Gates.” Novel substitutes for firescreens are “gates” of wrought iron. They are designed for the simple recess and hearth fireplaces found in rooms decorated in the most modern style and are hung so that when the pair of “gates” are closed they meet over the grate opening to form a decorative screen. When the fire is alight, they are flung back and lie fiat against the walls. Hair Ornament. Something original in the way of ornamenting your head in the evening is a long bar-shaped clip of diamente worn down a parting. It is equally effective whether you have a middle or side parting. It substitutes floral topknots and is a more sophisticated finish to a hairdressing.
