From Our Own Correspondent. The women’s corrimlttee arranging the home science classes for the High School girls met at Airs A. W. Bird's home bn Wednesday afternoon last. Mrs C. M. Stanley was in the chair, and also present were Mesdames A. R. McNae, J. R. Osborne (Secretary), J. F. Cowan, S. H. White aiid A. W. Bird. Donations haVo been received from the Apiti Women’s Institute and the Apiti branch of the W.D. F.U. A letter from the Education Board expressed appreciation of the interest being shown by the women's organisation of, the district in the High School pupils, and as it is intended to arrange lor cookery classes, the Board will install an h.p. range in the Technical School buildihfcs. Lectures were arranged until June 8 next. The home science studies to date have Included JectubeS on nursing, rock gardening and the care of the extremities, the leaders being Alesdames J, Watkins, John Jensen and W. At. Duncan. Mrs, A. A. Coup, of L'tuwai, has given vfry practical nursing lectures arid Mrs H. C. Mclntyre's talk on bglb growing \yas followed by the making of a garden plot plijthtfed with a variety of lilies. Mrs, Coup is to be adjtfed to give further nursing lectures, and mothfcrcraft talks are being considered by the committee. Afternoon teg Was served by Airs Bird, who was thanked by Mrs {Stanley. Presbyterian Guild. The ladies or the Frespytcrlan Guild gathered at Mrs J. Cawood’s home In Norsewood road on Tuesday afternoon of last week. Mrs L. J. Hodson presided and also present were Mesdames A. W. Benseman. W. M. Duncan, D. McNicol, Misses M. Paterson, A. Hodson and M. Cowati (secretary). The president led the devotions and spoke of the privileges ana responsibilities of members of the Presbyterian Church towards the church migslons in New Zealand and in India, Chlpa. and the New Hebrides. A letter from Nurse James, of the staff of the "Hospital of Universal Love” at Kai-Han, China, deeply touched the hearts of alt listeners, and members were requested to remember in prayers those wro aye finding life so dangerous and difficult in the war areas in China. Guild members have now commenced work for the sewing stall, and the secretary reported that funds have been distributed to the non-attending members to purchase materials for the same purpose. Mrs Cawood served afternoon tea and at the close of the meeting was thanked fbr her hospitality. Home Science Group.
The Apiti W.I. Home Science study Group met at the home of Mrs . M Duncan on Thursday evening. There wei* nine members present and Mrs A. W. Bird was the leader for the S.A.K. lecture on "How to conduct a business meeting.' This proved particularly instructive and interesting and after the lecture, tllr6* short meetings were held, each being conducted by a different chairwoman and secretary. It was decided to change the study evenings to every second Wednesday, and the next meeting is to be at MrsBird's home, with Mrs J. R. Osborne as leader. Mrs Duncan served supper, after which members prepared some oi the paper decorations for the W.I. dance on Friday. Votes of thanks were passed to the leader and the hostess.
