AVONDALE JOCKEY CLUB

FIELDS FOR TO-DAY Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, April 26. The following are fne acceptances for the second day of tho Avondala Jockey Club’s meeting, to be held to-day:—

OTAKI TROTTING CLUB SPLENDID ENTRIES RECEIVED Tho newly formed Otaki Trotting Club will hold its first meeting on Saturday next on the Otaki Racecourse. Owners and trainers of the light harness horse have responded splendidly to the club’s call for entries which closed last Wednesday night, no fewer than 72 nominations being received for the six events carded. A feature of tho programme is that every race carries, in addition to the prize money, a trophy which goes to the trainer of the winner of each race.

The trophies consist of two horsecovers, a set of hopples, a pair of driving reins and hand grips, a stop watch, and a latest model “Bryant” sulkiette, and these have been donated by wellwishers of the club in and about the Otaki district.

The meeting is a non-totalisator one, but patrons may indulge in the old-time fashion of making up sweeps on each race which is allowable under The Gaming Act provided the sweep does not exceed £5 and the contribution does not exceed 5s per head. Among the horses entered are several that have recently won races and others that have shown up prominently at tho recent meeting on this coast. They are: Tan John, King Franz, Arapai, Waingake, Expensive Lady, Big Kauri, Native Leaf, Air Pilot, Ropata, Activity, Bonnie Direct, Allworthy, Acora, Orleigh Mills, Guy Zolock, Lady Author, Red Knight, Hal Pointer, Max Havoc, Playful, Silver Black, and Belinda King. The first race is timed to start at 1.30 p.m. and the last at 4 p.m. and given a fine day patrons of the club should enjoy a very pleasant afternoon among the trotters. The handicaps appeared in yesterday’s issue and there is no further acceptance to be made.
