From Our Own Correspondent. euchre and danc» season opened in the Newbury hall recentlv. there being a good attendance. The following were the winners of the euchre- prizes were: randies, -'fra Peterhana. !. Mias Cheetham 2. Mrs A. Hume 3; men. Mr T. Little 1. Mr Walker 2. Mr C. Whit. 3. The travelling prizes were won by Miss «'owen and Mr Persson. and consolation prizes by Mrs H. Cheetham and Mr S. Wright. After supper the usual dance was held. The lucky spot dance was won by Mr Baker and Mrs Newlands, and the Monte t'arlo by Mr A. McCulloch and Mrs W. Pemberthy. The rake, donated by Mrs J. Cheethani, was won by Miss <Linklater. Mr M. Hansen acted ns M.C.. and the hosts and hostess were Messrs S. Death. A. \V. McCulloch. M. Hansen, j. Cheetham and Mrs M. Hansen. The Newbury Euchrn Club journeyed to Kelvin Grove recently to play for Hie Country Clubs’ Shield. Kelvin Grove proved the winners by a margin of eight games. Mr Buchanan extended a warm welcome to the visitors. Dancing was later indulged in. the music being supplied hv Mrs Ryan and Mr Buchanan. On behalf of Newbury, Mr Hansen thanked Kelvin Grove members for the enjoyable evening. Friends of Mr and Mrs H. Swainson will be pleased to learn that their son. Billv. is progressing favourably after his recent operation. Mr and Mrs E. W. Collins and the Misses P. and V. Collins, arc on a motor tour of the North Island. Mrs Maiden and Mr Clyde Maiden have returned from Wellington after attending the wedding of Mrs Maiden’s niece. Mrs J. Linklater and family have returned from the beach, where they spent the Easter vacation. Miss Betty Linklater has returned to Masterton where She is staying with her sister, Mrs S. Caley. A social and dance is to be held in the Newbury hall to-day (Tuesday), this be-

ing sponsored by the Newbury Women’s Institute, and a very enjoyable time Is anticipated
