From Our Own Correspondent. Methodist Harvest Sale.

There was a good attendance at the an' nual Methodist Harvest Sale, held at Nireaha recently. The early part of the evening took the form of a concert, an enjoyable programme being rendered by Eketahuna artists. Following the concert the sale of a goodly array of produce was conducted, the auctioneer being Mr R. Gallagher, of Eketahuna. A sum of £l2 was realised by the auction, this figure being slightly under last year’s. During the supper interval, the Rev. S.. Hindmarsh extended thanks on behalf of the church authorities to the Nireaha people for their co-operation in the effort. In regard to the recent Presbyterian Harvest Sale, the sum of £lB was taken, not £ls, as previously stated. Tennis. The present season was officially closed recently, when competitions for the various buttons were finalised. Those to hold the buttons until next season are Miss K. Davidson, Airs Alills, Mr B. Lozell and Air. N. C. Petersen. The past season has been a very successful one. House-party. Mr and Airs W. W. Drysdale recently entertained approximately one hundred relatives and friends at a house-warming party. The evening was an enjoyable one, entertainment of a varied nature being presented. Dancing was enjoyed to music supplied by Alessrs D. J., John, and J. H. Drysdale. Air W. Drysdale was ARC. Extras were supplied by Alessrs Jack Drysdale (piano), A. C. Hanson (piano-accor-dion), and Edw. Drysdale (bagpipes). Aliss Russell, of Pahiatua, entertained with exhibitions of Highland dancing. A lucky spot waltz wask.won by Aliss Jean Goss and Air Gordon Drysdale. Songs were rendered by Air Fred Holloway and Air Stan Goss. Supper was served by the hostess and helpers. Before the crowd dispersed,' Air R. Lawrence, on behalf of those present, extended thanks to the host and hostess for their hospitality, and expressed the wish that their future residence in their new home would be one of happiness. This was followed by musical honours, and Air Drysdale replied on behalf of his wife and himself, thanking all who had helped in any way during the evening and those who had helped in various ways during the erectipn of their new home. Women’s Institute. At the monthly meeting of the Nireaha Women’s Institute Airs Petersen presided , over a good attendance of members and visitors. Alesdames Petersen and Wilkin were appointed delegates to the annua’, council meeting to be held in Carterton in April. The competitions for the month resulted as follow: Best bloom, Mrs Petersen 1, Airs Wilkin 2, Miss B. Petersen 3; rice pudding, Airs F. Hansen 1, Airs Blewett 2, All’s Stewart, Airs Nordell and Airs Petersen (equal) 3; hat competition, Airs J. Alason 1, Airs O’Neil and Aliss B. Petersen (equal) 2, Mrs Drysdale, Miss H. Drysdale and All’s F. Hansen (equal) A The hostesses for the afternoon were Alesdames J. Hawkins and G. Brown. Rifle Shooting.

The second ot a series of three shoots for the Bush Cup, was held on the Taraliua range recently. Visibility was poor, and the scores were not so high as in the first match. The three teams, Kaiparoro. Alfredton and Tararua scored 757, 755, and 748, respectively. Seven shots were fired at the 300, 500 and 600 yards ranges, the scores being as follow:

Kaiparoro: A. Hansen 9S, J. C. McAnulty 97, J, Torrey 96, R. Henson 94, D. J Dick 94, O. Walton 91, K. Henson 90.

Alfredton: A. Edmonds 101, H. Seymour 96, J. H. McDonald 96, A. Weston 95, L Duckett 94, H. Percy 90, D. Johansen 89.

Tararua: L. G. Sigvertsen 100, J. P. Petersen 99, C. Rasmussen 9S, C. Sigvertsen 93, P. Berry 92, J. P. Sigvertsen 90, N. C. Petersen 89, W. J. Manser 87. The third and final match Is looked foi’ward to with the keenest interest, as the score totals now are: Kaiparoro 1519, Tararua 1519, Alfredton 1516. The leaders for the Kibbell Cup, awarded to the highest individual scorer, are A. C. Edmonds and J. P. Petersen, both having the high total of 199.
