Dominion’s Prosperity Greater Than Ever
HON. P. FRASER’S VIEW From Our # Ov/n CorresDonAent. WAIPUKURAU, Last Night. “New Zeaiand at present is moix prosperous than ever before in its history and, while it is quite true that it has been fortunate during the past two years in obtaining good prices in world markets, yet it is equally clear that had the Nationalist Government been in office during that period, the people of New Zealand, under its policy—tried, condemned and cast aside by the people at the last election—would not have benefited as a whole to the extent they have done. Labour’s development policy has given many people a standard of living and a security for the future that they would not have had otherwise. Thus the Hon. P. Fraser, Minister of Education, in an interview yesterday. “The health of the Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. M. J. F vage, is now as good as ever, and I would like to pay a tribute to his fine leadership of the Government and of the Labour Party. In the period of nearly 19 years that 1 have sat in Parliament, I have never seen the House led so capably and with such consideration and firmness as by Mr. Savage. He is a Prime Minister and a leader of whom we can be proud,” Mr. Fraser added. The political situation, Mr. Fraser said, was very satisfactory from the Government’s point of view. Indications were that, in town and country, the Government was stronger to-day than at any time since the General Election. “The Nationalist section in the community—as apart from the individual representatives—has developed, or rather degenerated, into a garden party, not a political party.”
