Notes of the Day

At yesterday’s meeting of the general committee of the Manawatu A. and P. Association, reference was made to the passing of Mr Ben Gray, of Feilding, and a motion of condolence with the family passed. Deceased had been a member of the Association for over, 40 years and a prominent exhibitor in days gone by. Two building permits for work valued at £SOO were issued in the Manawatu County last month. At yesterday’s meeting of the Manawatu County Council the chairman (Cr. W. E. Barber) referred to the passing of the late Mr. B. Gray, of Feilding, an ex-councillor, and the council stood in silence in recording its sympathy with fiis relatives. Cr. D. W. Reid was appointed at yesterday’s meeting of the Manawatu County Council to represent the council on the Mount Stewart Pioneers’ Memorial Committee.

Mr. F. N. Harrison, of the Feilding staff of the Bank of New South Wales, has received notice of his transfer to the Courtenay Place branch at Wellington and will leave early next week to cake up his new duties. Mr. and Mrs. T. Collins, Mayor and Mayoress of Feilding, leave Feilding on Friday to join an overseas steamer for a holiday tour in the East. At the close of the business at last evening’s meeting of the Feilding Borough Council the Mayor (Mr. T. Collins) who is not seeking re-election, thanked the councillors for their help during the past three years. All had worked together in the interests of the town and its ratepayers and he thanked them all sincerely. He also had to thank the town clerk (Mr. C. H. ’fate) and the borough engineer (Mr. T. K. Hay) as well as tho office staff (Misses Entwisle and Fowler) for their willing and happy assistance in his office. Noone could wish for more efficient officers and staff. Mr. Collins especially thanked the councillors who were not seeking re-election and to those who were offering their services for a further term he wished them success at tho poll. Councillors in turn paid a tribute to the Mayor’s work and wished Mr. and Mrs. Collins bon voyage in their approaching holiday overseas. Feilding’s Post Office clock is commencing to give trouble and the recent stoppages decided last evening’s meeting of the Feilding Borough Council to have the mechanism overhauled. It wat stated that the work was the matter for experts and it was agreed to obtain advice from Wellington.
