Absorption of Idle Married Men

GOVERNMENT OFFERS SUBSIDY Arising out of the v isit to Foxton on March 31 of the Minister of Labour, the Manawatu County Council, at its meeting yesterday, received a letter from the Department of Labour asking whether the council could put in liauu at an early date any developmental or constructional work for the purpose of absorbing a number of tne lit married men in the district. “If your council can see its way clear to put suitable work in hand, you may depend upon its being liberally subsidised from the Employment Promotion Fund."

The chairman (Mr. YV. E. Barber) said that he had not received any intimation of the visit of the Minister to Foxton and regretted that he had uot had an opportunity of meeting him.

The councrl decided to ask the Labour Department the amount of subsidy that would be available.
