Approval of Glasgow System
LEASING SECTIONS AT MANAWATU HEADS. For some time the terms of the Foxton Harbour Board's leases in connection with sections at Manawatu Heads have been the cause of much comment by leaseholders and those desirous of erecting dwellings at the resort. At Tuesday's meeting of the board, however, it was reported that during the past month a special committee, which had been set up to go into the matter, had met and considered the position. The committee recommended: (1) That the secretary endeavour to locate the plan prepared by Mr Climie for deposit purposes and that, failing this, the one prepared by Mr Farquhar be deposited; (2) that a Glasgow system of lease obtain with regard to beach sections, and that steps be taken to have a suitable clause framed for submission to Parliament, and .hat the member for the district be asked to arrange a suitable deputation to wait on the Minister for Marine to endeavour to have the whole matter finalised this year. Mr J. A. Nash said that the Glasgow lease provided for a lease of 21 years, with the right of renewal and a clause for compensation. Mr Goldsmith: Will there be any liability to the board? Mr Nash: No. At the end of the term if a renewal is not desired the property can be sold in market value. Mr H. Osborne: A revaluation will be made of the sections every 21 years under the scheme. That is the fairest way. The board is only concerned with the actual land.
The special committee's recommendations were adopted.
