MEETING OF MANAWATU ASSOCIATION
The executive of the Manawatu and West Coast Dairy Companies’ Association met in Palmerston North y iterday, Mr. S. A. Broadbelt (Levin) presiding Also present were Messrs. J. Boyce (Tui), P. Hansen (Awahuri), S. E Algar (Taikorea), J. R. Whyte (Tokomaru), C. G. C. Dernier (Cheltenham) and J. Devine (Ivairanga). ‘ ‘ The question of accepting part orders on suppliers' cheques was discussed at a meeting of our directors today, and it was decided to bring this matter before your association, and also similar associations interested, and if necessary, approach members of Parliament to endeavour to have the position altered," stated a letter from the Levin Co-op. Dairy Company. "We are strongly of the opinion that concerted action by all dairy companies should be made to have the position altered." After a discussion in committee, it was agreed that it would not be advisable to do anything in the matter at present. The recent circular sent out by Hon. Walter Nash seeking an expression of opinion on a proposal to put the bobby calf industry in the hands of the Dairy Board, was discussed, and it was decided to recommend to companies acceptance of the proposal. It was stated that several companies in this district had already taken steps for a referendum of their suppliers.
