Palmerston North Horticultural Society

The monthly meeting was held on Monday evening when. Mr A. W. Just presided over a fair attendance.

The chairman referred to the loss to horticulture in the passing of Mr F. J. Nathan who had been tho founder of the Garden Circle. A motion of sympathy with the relatives was carried — mombers standing in silence. The speaker for the evening was \V. F. J.. Melhuish, who took for his subject, “Pruning of Flowering Shrubs.” His remarks were followed with close attention. With samples of various shrubs he gave a practical demonstration of how to treat the various shrubs, and members received much valuable information. Question time was most instructive. On motion of Mr J. Adamson a hearty vote of thanks accorded the speaker. The chairman then gave an interesting description of the National Flower Show held recently in Christchurch, lie followed with an account of some of his

travels in Central Otago. Time did not permit a full description, but at some future meeting, Mr Just will continue his story. The members expressed by acclamation their appreciation of his talk. The monthly competition resulted:— Mrs J. H. Morgan 1 (nerines), Mrs D. James 2 (Hydrangeas), Mrs H. Brookfield 3 (double sunflowers).
